In the second half of April (April 15-21, 2024), the Winter European Team Championships in Open Sports Bridge were held. This year, the name of the championship was not just a formality, as it took place in the French Alps – in the resort of Alpe d’Huez (last year, the tournament was also held in the French Alps, but in Tignes for a change).
There were a lot of teams participating – as many as 48 teams, with the Polish delegation filling up the playing hall. Our foundation’s players were also present. Jacek Pszczoła, Krzysztof Buras, and Patryk Patreuha played in the international Nikos team (3 Poles, 2 Greeks, and 1 American woman). They played excellently, and after 5 days of exhausting play, they advanced to the final, where they faced none other than the current World Champions – the Swiss team. By the way, their opponents consisted of the top six players in the world ranking.
Unfortunately, they didn’t manage to win the match, but our players returned home with the silver medal. Congratulations!
